A child hungry for food will never be hungry for school. And, if we can't meet their hunger for bread, they will never be hungry for books.
Because for a hungry child, plates of rice and chapati are more inviting than chapters from geography and geometry!
That's where The Akshaya Patra Foundation , the free lunch program comes in. Akshaya Patra is the world's largest NGO-run mid day meal programme, feeding over 1.3 Million underprivileged children daily in more than 8,260 schools in 18 locations, across 8 states in India.
By providing healthy & nutritious food for school children, the foundation not only helps in eradicating hunger but encourages education among underprivileged children in India. Education is the singlemost powerful tool to get an entire family out of the cycle of poverty.
Children are the most deserving, and if we could reach our mission to feed 5 million children by 2020, it will make a huge impact in the lives of entire families and this in turn will play a significant role in the exercise of nation building.
